A high-level review meeting has been held to assess progress on Iraq's strategic Development Road project, covering design, costs and operational planning.
The meeting examined timelines proposed by the appointed auditing firm for completing reviews of rail and road designs, alongside discussions on design costs for both the railway line and the road corridor. Operating plans submitted by consulting firms KBR, Oliver Wyman and BTP were also reviewed.
Participants assessed completion rates across all component projects of the Development Road scheme, as well as legal frameworks related to the operation of the Grand Faw Port. This includes a proposed joint management structure with Abu Dhabi Ports. Oliver Wyman presented details on launching the third phase of its support programme, following completion of the previous two phases.
The meeting stressed the need to select the most effective operating plan and to finalise outstanding options to ensure continued momentum on a project regarded as critical to Iraq's long-term economic future.
