The Iraqi Drilling Company (IDC) has completed drilling the Majnoon-170 appraisal well at the Majnoon oilfield in Basra to a depth of 4,280 metres.
The well was drilled using the IDC-57 rig, the largest drilling unit in Iraq, with a capacity of 3,000 horsepower. The work was carried out for the Basra Oil Company (BOC) in cooperation with Halliburton, in line with approved technical standards and safety and quality requirements.
The appraisal well aims to collect and analyse geological and reservoir data and assess the petroleum characteristics of producing formations, supporting technical decisions on field development and improving recovery efficiency.
The company said the completion of the well forms a key part of the field appraisal programme, strengthening the reservoir data set and improving the accuracy of geological models used for subsequent development planning.
