Preparatory scientific work has begun in Baghdad for the 17th Arab Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy, scheduled to be held in Iraq in 2026.
The scientific preparatory committee has started its meetings in cooperation between the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission (IAEC) and the Arab Atomic Energy Agency (AAEA). The conference will focus on the responsible and peaceful application of nuclear and radiation sciences in support of research, healthcare, agriculture, industry, environment, water and energy.
The preparatory meetings aim to set the scientific framework for the conference, support capacity-building pathways for Arab countries, and promote research cooperation, knowledge exchange and training programmes in nuclear and radiation technologies aligned with sustainable development goals.
The conference is expected to provide a regional platform for developing scientific expertise and strengthening Arab cooperation in the peaceful uses of atomic energy.
