Plans have reportedly been approved to expand the Najaf refinery's production capacity to 100,000 barrels per day, alongside the development of several oilfields in the province.
The governor of Najaf, Yousif Kinawi, told the state-run Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the refinery's current capacity stands at around 30,000 barrels per day.
Implementation has been assigned to Chinese companies, with completion targeted within one year.
He said that in parallel, work has begun on three oilfields: the Dhi al-Qarnayn field, located entirely within Najaf province, and two shared fields with Karbala and Babil. Preparatory work is also continuing to enable future investment in a fourth field, al-Ruhban.
