Salah Al-Din 3 Refinery Begins Operations

By John Lee.

Final operations have commenced at the Salah Al-Din [Salahuddin] 3 refinery, increasing Iraq's refining capacity by 70,000 barrels per day (bpd).

The refinery, operated by the North Refineries Company (NRC), has successfully completed final commissioning, with its products delivered to storage facilities in preparation for local marketing, according to the Ministry of Oil.

The project forms part of broader plans to expand refining capacity and support self-sufficiency in petroleum products. The refinery produces a range of oil derivatives that meet approved specifications, contributing to domestic supply and enabling the export of surplus volumes to international markets.

The development is intended to strengthen Iraq's downstream sector through the construction and completion of new refineries within compressed timelines, supporting increased refining output and reduced reliance on imports.
