The longest horizontal oil well ever drilled in Iraq has been completed at the East Baghdad oil field, southern area.
The project was delivered by the Midland Oil Company in cooperation with the Chinese firm EBS Petroleum [Zhenhua Oil] and involved the drilling of the horizontal well EBMK-8-1H. The well reached a total depth of 6,320 metres, with a horizontal section measuring 3,535 metres.
The Ministry of Oil said the project reflects the application of advanced horizontal drilling techniques and a high level of technical expertise. The well forms part of ongoing plans to develop national oil fields, increase production rates, optimise reservoir utilisation, and reduce operational costs, while strengthening technical partnerships with international companies.
The completion of the well is described as a significant step in enhancing Iraq's advanced drilling capabilities and supporting large-scale oil projects in line with international standards.
