Iraqi PM Pushes Sovereign Guarantees Initiative

By John Lee.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani chaired a special meeting on the Sovereign Guarantees Initiative, attended by the Minister of Finance, the Director General of Public Debt at the Ministry, the Head of the Sovereign Guarantees Committee, the President of the Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI), and a number of advisers.

The meeting reviewed progress on the initiative, which is designed to support and develop Iraq's private sector. The Prime Minister directed relevant authorities to continue advancing the programme, describing it as an initiative of significant developmental and economic value that has attracted both domestic and international attention from governments and advisory and commercial institutions.

He noted that the initiative reflects the state's readiness to mobilise its full support to strengthen the private sector and facilitate the transfer of global industrial capabilities into Iraq.

Al-Sudani also instructed concerned bodies to accelerate implementation of the Sovereign Guarantees Initiative, emphasising its importance in expanding non-oil economic contributions, boosting national industry, increasing domestic production, and generating private-sector employment opportunities.
