The Al-Waleed border crossing has been reopened on a trial basis for the transit of crude oil tankers between Iraq and Syria, according to local officials.
Mujahid Mardhi Al-Dulaimi, Director of Al-Waleed district, told state-run Iraqi News Agency (INA) that operations began with the initial movement of tankers across the border, marking the resumption of oil transport activity between the two countries.
He added that [as of Tuesday afternoon] more than 150 tankers were waiting to enter Syrian territory, with the number of incoming tankers expected to reach a minimum of 500 per day.
The reopening took place in the presence of Anbar Governor Omar Mishaan Al-Dabbous, First Deputy Yasser Al-Muhanna, Adviser Khalid Al-Jabri, and Technical Deputy Governor Khalid Al-Thuwaini.
Officials said the move is expected to support trade activity and strengthen economic cooperation between Iraq and Syria.
