Creative Economy Workshop to Develop Youth-Led Businesses

By John Lee.

Iraq's Ministry of Trade has highlighted plans to support the development of youth-led initiatives into viable economic projects during the first Creative Economy Conference workshop.

Trade Minister Atheer Dawood Al-Ghurairi said the ministry is working to adopt and support innovative initiatives that help transform entrepreneurial ideas into practical, market-ready businesses.

The conference, described as the first of its kind in Iraq, aims to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), strengthen the innovation ecosystem, and connect emerging projects with relevant support institutions.

Key focus areas include:

  • Supporting entrepreneurs in developing and scaling business ideas
  • Enhancing the role of SMEs in the national economy
  • Linking projects to local market needs
  • Encouraging innovation and youth participation in economic activity

The minister also proposed organising specialised exhibitions to showcase projects and ideas, providing a platform to promote youth talent and encourage continued innovation.

Officials emphasised that SMEs represent a core driver of economic activity, with a key role in job creation and the development of sustainable employment opportunities.
