According to the Ministry of Oil, construction work on a new refinery unit at the Missan [Maysan] refinery is entering its final stages, with commissioning expected within days.
The new unit will add a processing capacity of 70,000 barrels per day (bpd), bringing the refinery's total capacity to 110,000 bpd. The project is being implemented to the latest international technical and environmental standards.
Key details of the project include:
- Addition of a new refining unit with a capacity of 70,000 bpd
- Total refinery capacity upon completion: 110,000 bpd
- Implementation to current international technical and environmental specifications
- Expected to support employment and industrial and commercial activity in Maysan province and neighbouring governorates
The ministry said the project forms part of a broader government programme to develop and expand refineries across the country, improve self-sufficiency in petroleum products, and ultimately export surplus output to foreign markets.
Adnan Mohammed Hamoud, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Refining Affairs, acknowledged the efforts of the national workforce and all staff at South Refineries Company (SRC), as well as personnel across the refining sector.
