The Mishraq Sulphur State Company, a subsidiary of Iraq's Ministry of Industry and Minerals, has signed a partnership agreement with a private Iraqi company to develop an integrated industrial project for refined sulphur production at the Al-Lazzaka 2 field [Al-Lazakah, Allizaqa] field [in Nineveh Governorate], with an initial production capacity of one million tonnes per year, extendable beyond that level.
According to the company, Director General Ahmed Abdullah Rowdhan said the contract follows the project being offered as an investment opportunity in line with the ministry's strategy to revive stalled projects and bring new fields into operation. He added that the project aims to reduce dependence on imports, supply refined sulphur to local industries, and create export opportunities, while generating employment and fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors.
The company statement did not give the name of the private Iraqi company involved.
This is the second such partnership agreement signed by the company. The first, covering the rehabilitation, operation, and development of a refined sulphur production line at Mishraq-1 field in Nineveh governorate, has a production capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per year.
