Gulftainer has launched its first dedicated feeder service linking the UAE and Umm Qasr, seventeen years after the company established Iraq's first modern container terminal at the port in 2009.
According to Gulftainer, the new service is operated under the company's shipping arm, GT Lines, and connects Umm Qasr directly to UAE gateways and onward to regional and global logistics hubs.
The route combines GT Lines' vessels with the Iraq Commercial Terminal and the Umm Qasr Logistics Centre (UQLC), which is located adjacent to the terminal and provides warehousing, container storage, cargo consolidation, customs facilitation, and other value-added services.
Farid Belbouab, Group CEO of Gulftainer, said the new route forms an integrated corridor rather than simply another shipping line, adding that it is intended to give Iraqi businesses greater certainty and reliability in trade.
The service is designed to improve cargo visibility and provide more predictable access to global markets, connecting Iraqi traders to East Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, Africa and beyond.
