Central Bank, Integrity Commission Stress Financial Oversight Cooperation

By John Lee.

The head of the Federal Commission of Integrity, Dr. Mohammed Ali Al-Lami, has stressed the importance of using parallel financial investigations as a tool for tracking the proceeds of corruption crimes and exposing their pathways.

Speaking during a meeting with the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), Nizar Nasser Hussein, Al-Lami called for tighter controls over channels used to smuggle funds out of the country, saying this would help protect public money and strengthen integrity through closer cooperation between relevant institutions.

The two officials discussed ways to enhance cooperation and coordination between their organisations, in support of national efforts to protect the financial system and to curb corruption, money laundering and financial violations.

Nizar Nasser Hussein told the meeting that formalising cooperation with oversight bodies was important for protecting public funds, reducing corruption and financial breaches, and reinforcing trust in the financial system in line with best institutional practices.
