Iraq's Minister of Industry and Minerals, Mohammed Nouri, received his Jordanian counterpart, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah, along with an accompanying delegation, on Thursday.
The two sides held a meeting to discuss ways of strengthening industrial and trade cooperation, and expanding joint coordination in areas serving the shared interests of the two countries.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, the meeting also reviewed progress on the Iraqi-Jordanian Economic City project, with both sides stressing the importance of overcoming obstacles facing it, given its strategic significance for supporting the industrial sector and creating economic opportunities.
The two ministers also affirmed the importance of holding the 31st session of the Iraqi-Jordanian Joint Committee in Baghdad in the coming period, expressing their commitment to activating the committee's work to enhance communication and coordination between the relevant authorities in both countries.
The meeting also covered a number of files of mutual interest, chief among them developing the volume of trade exchange, and opening new horizons for economic and investment cooperation, in a way that supports private sector activity and strengthens economic partnership between Iraq and Jordan.
In 2023, the Iraqi Jordanian Company for Industry, a joint venture set up by the Jordanian and Iraqi governments, invited companies to view the tender documents related to the development of the joint "Economic City" project (i.e. Free Zone) between Jordan and Iraq.
