Iraq Wins Int'l Legal Cases Worth $26bn in 4 Years

Iraq has won 32 international legal cases on behalf of the Iraqi state over the past four years, saving the public treasury around $26 billion - an achievement described as the largest such result since the 1990s.

According to the Ministry of Justice, the total value of funds secured for the treasury stood at $25,998,853,445, plus an additional €40 million, as of the end of 2025. Haitham Muhyi Radi, Director General of the Legal Department within the ministry, said the results reflect a qualitative improvement in the management of international legal files and the defence of Iraq's rights before international courts and arbitration bodies.

Radi attributed the outcomes to the direct involvement of Minister of Justice Khalid Shawani, noting that specialised strategies had been adopted for tracking international cases to protect public funds and safeguard Iraq's interests.
