Iraqi-Turkish Rail Talks on Development Road Project

By John Lee.

Iraq's General Company for Railways has met with a Turkish delegation to discuss implementing a framework memorandum of understanding (MOU) on transport infrastructure development signed earlier in August.

The meeting, chaired by the company's director Mohammed Habib Jabr, was attended by Burak Aykan, Director General for European Union Affairs and Foreign Relations at Turkey's Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, along with department heads from the Iraqi side.

According to Iraq's Ministry of Transport, discussions focused on moving the MOU from framework to actionable stages, with the Development Road project identified as a priority file, including prospects for cooperation on the railway line following completion of design phases.

Both sides also reaffirmed commitments to continuing coordination and fulfilling the technical, financial, and legal requirements for the projects covered by the MOU.
