Iraq and the Czech Republic have discussed strengthening bilateral trade and economic relations during a meeting in Baghdad between the Department of Foreign Economic Relations at the Ministry of Trade and Michal Svoboda, Minister Plenipotentiary at the Czech Embassy.
Riyad al-Hashimi, Director General of the department, called for a fifth session of the Iraqi-Czech Joint Committee to be held before the end of the year or in early 2026, and proposed establishing an Iraqi-Czech Business Council to expand cooperation between the two countries' private sectors. He also invited Czech companies to participate in the next Baghdad International Fair.
Svoboda indicated that the Czech Embassy in Baghdad plans to organise a business forum bringing together Czech companies with Iraqi government institutions and private-sector representatives to explore areas including sustainable management, water conservation, and water reuse.
