ILO-Iraq Workshop Planned on Small Business Resilience

By John Lee.

Iraq's Ministry of Planning has held a virtual meeting with the International Labour Organization (ILO) to discuss organising a workshop on building inclusive and risk-informed small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Iraq, as part of efforts to support sustainable recovery and local economic development.

According to the Ministry of Planning, the workshop is being organised in partnership with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and aims to bring together government bodies, private sector representatives, financial institutions, development partners, academic institutions, and UN agencies to discuss practical approaches to strengthening SME resilience.

The meeting also explored potential areas of cooperation and the ministry's possible role in supporting and leading the initiative. Attendees included representatives from the Office of the Technical Deputy and departments covering economic and financial policies, regional and local development, human development, and investment programmes.
