New Iraqi-Armenian Business Council Planned

Iraq and Armenia have agreed to establish a joint business council, following a meeting between officials from both countries in Baghdad.

According to Iraq's Ministry of Trade, the meeting brought together Dr. Malik al-Durai'i, Director General of the Department of Private Sector Development, and an Armenian delegation comprising the head of the economic department and the Armenian ambassador to Baghdad.

Also present were Bakr Fattah, head of the Department of Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Riyad al-Hashimi, Director General of the Department of External Economic Relations; and the deputy head of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce.

The meeting focused on bilateral economic relations and ways to strengthen trade and investment cooperation between the public and private sectors of both countries. Outcomes included:

• Establishment of an Iraqi-Armenian Business Council
• Exchange of trade delegations
• Organisation of joint investment conferences and forums
• Simplification of procedures for businesses and companies in both countries
