Plans to develop a national artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in Iraq have been discussed by the Communications and Media Commission (CMC) and an adviser to the Prime Minister.
According to the CMC, Baligh Abu Kalal, head of the CMC, met with Dr Diya Al-Jumaili, adviser to the Prime Minister for AI affairs, to explore cooperation in AI, modern technologies, and national technical infrastructure development.
The meeting covered a proposed project to establish a specialised national infrastructure using the latest technologies required to operate AI applications and process advanced data. It also addressed investment in youth skills development in AI and modern technologies, and expanding opportunities for national talent to participate in future projects.
Abu Kalal stressed the importance of moving beyond the use of AI applications towards building infrastructure that enables Iraqi institutions to develop their own solutions.
Both parties agreed to continue coordination, exchange expertise, and study proposed projects and initiatives, with the aim of building advanced national capabilities and a supportive environment for AI across various sectors.
