Iraq's Ministry of Planning has held talks with a World Bank delegation on a national partnership strategy for the next five years.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Maher Hammad Johan, the ministry's Under-Secretary for Technical Affairs, and attended by Dr. Othman Diyon, World Bank Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa region.

According to the Ministry of Planning, discussions covered ways to strengthen cooperation between the two sides, and steps to develop a roadmap for the partnership strategy, including project implementation measures to support reforms and promote economic growth.

The meeting also addressed the acceleration of ongoing World Bank-funded projects, approval of proposed projects, and preparation of future initiatives. Topics included support for the government programme, job creation, private sector development, investment attraction, human capital improvement, economic diversification, and improving the business environment.

The World Bank delegation also met separately with Finance Minister and Acting Planning Minister Faleh Sari to discuss the partnership strategy and its implementation mechanisms. Also present at the ministry meeting were Dr. Dhia Awad, head of the Central Statistical Organization and Geographic Information Systems, along with a number of director-generals from the ministry and regional directors and international representatives from the World Bank.
