Newbury Pharma gets Import Approvals for 19 Hospital Products in Iraq

By John Lee.

Import approvals have been granted for 19 hospital products from the portfolio of Newbury Pharmaceuticals International in Iraq. The approvals were issued by the Ministry of Health to the Swedish company's local distribution partner, allowing the products to be imported and sold in the country ahead of full product registration.

The approvals cover injectable products for hospital and acute care, including antibiotics, analgesics, gastrointestinal treatments and vitamin injections. Several products will be sold under Newbury's own brand names. The approvals are valid for one year from issue.

The import approvals follow an exclusivity agreement announced on 28 September 2026, under which Newbury holds exclusive rights to register, market and sell its hospital portfolio in Iraq over a ten-year term. The company operates on a business-to-business model, with products ordered against confirmed customer orders.

Karl Karlsson, CEO of Newbury Pharmaceuticals, said the approvals would allow the company to begin supplying the Iraqi hospital market earlier than the registration timetable would otherwise permit. He added that the company is in dialogue with its distribution partner on initial order volumes.
