A former director-general of Iraq's state-run Oil Products Distribution Company (OPDC) has been sentenced to eight years in prison and ordered to repay IQD 55 billion (USD 37 million) after being convicted for illicitly benefiting from contracts and agreements involving the North Refineries Company (NRC).

According to the Federal Commission of Integrity, which did not name the individual, the Anti-Corruption Criminal Court issued a verdict finding him guilty of intervening in the award and disbursement of 40 contracts and 29 purchase orders - with a combined value of IQD 181 billion (USD 121 million) - in favour of companies connected with him.

The Commission stated that the convicted official secured a personal benefit of IQD 30 billion (USD 20 million) and conferred benefits of IQD 35 billion (USD 23 million) on others. The court found the total recoverable amount to be IQD 55 billion (USD 37 million), and the sentence was issued under Article 319 of the Penal Code.
