Iraqi-French Business Council Head Highlights Iraq Investment Drive

By John Lee.

Iraq is working to create a more attractive environment for business and investment, according to the head of the Iraqi-French Business Council, Adham al-Fakhar.

Al-Fakhar told the state-run Iraqi News Agency (INA) that a French delegation had received a clear message of openness from Iraq, with both sides expressing readiness for partnership. He said a recent forum focused on the health and pharmaceuticals sector, with 11 companies participating, and that further investment conferences in other sectors are planned.

Al-Fakhar acknowledged the difficulties of doing business in Iraq but said efforts were under way to offer exceptions to attract foreign companies. He emphasised that attracting foreign partners must go hand in hand with developing local private-sector capacity.

He added that progress would depend on concrete actions rather than rhetoric, and called for government boldness in creating an enabling environment for investment.
