Controlled by: Ministry of Oil (Baghdad).
Location: The block lies in the central part of Iraq, about 15 km East of Al Najaf and about 30 km south of Hilla and 120 km southeast of Baghdad and covers an area of around 6,000 km2. Al Diwaniya city is located within the block.
This block is in the center of the oil-prone Mesopotamia tectonic zone and close to existing infrastructure and numerous appraised discoveries.
According to the "Fifth-plus" licensing round information, the Block covers an area of about 6,000 km2, extending over Al Najaf, Al Muthanna, Wasit, Babylon and Diwanya Governorates, close to the Nasiriya and Garraf Fields. On announcement of the results of the licensing round, the Ministry of Oil said it has an area of 6,300 square kilometers.
Discovery: No wells have been drilled on Block. Expected: Oil Potential.
Developed by: China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC)
Contract granted: Fifth-plus licensing round, May 2024. (The block was originally offered in the fourth oil licensing round in 2012, but no bids were received.) According to a statement from CNOOC, the contract was signed on 30th October 2024.
