Iraq, Lebanon Discuss Fiber Optic Cable Project

The head of Iraq's National Investment Commission (NIC), Dr. Haidar Mohammed Makiyya, has met with the Lebanese Prime Minister, Mr. Najib Mikati. They discussed extending a fiber optic cable project from Iraq through Syria and Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of integration in vital and strategic projects among regional countries.

Makiya stated that Baghdad supports economic and trade activities aimed at achieving investment development and openness to various countries. He explained that the meeting's objective was to discuss shared points in the investment sector that could be developed to serve the highest national interests of both nations.

The meeting discussed mechanisms for field assessments of the Iraqi oil pipeline passing through Syria and Lebanon. Discussions also touched on the possibility of negotiating and signing a cooperation protocol to attract foreign direct investment.

Mikati highlighted Lebanon's keenness to enhance economic relations with Iraq, expressing optimism about the outcomes of the meeting in serving joint interests.
