Iraq Approves New Residential City in Wasit

By John Lee.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani chaired the regular meeting of the Higher Committee for Investment and Reconstruction, focusing on improving investment mechanisms across various economic and developmental sectors.

The committee approved the creation of "New Wasit City," a residential project in Wasit province, as part of the government's vision to develop new urban areas. This project will involve the distribution of serviced residential plots, with private developers responsible for infrastructure, service institutions, and management, offering affordable housing to selected citizens to address the housing crisis.

The committee also rejected a proposal to convert a 77-dunum plot in Diwaniyah's Umm Al-Khail area into a residential complex. Instead, the Diwaniyah Investment Authority will seek investment opportunities to develop a high-quality recreational area on the site, enhancing local tourism.

Additionally, the committee made several decisions aimed at expanding investment in various economic sectors, increasing private sector involvement, creating jobs, and supporting overall development.
