Blue Ammonia Plant for Basra?

By John Lee.

Iraq is reportedly preparing to grant an investment licence for its first blue ammonia production plant, which will be situated in Basra Governorate.

A spokesperson for the National Investment Commission (NIC) told the state-run Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the project will reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere, making it environmentally friendly.

According to the UK's Royal Society, 'blue ammonia' is ammonia produced using 'blue hydrogen', i.e. hydrogen produced by steam methane reforming (SMR) where the carbon dioxide has been captured and stored.
