Plans for River Taxi Service in Baghdad

By John Lee.

The Administrative Undersecretary of Iraq's Ministry of Transport, Dr. Hazem Radi Al-Hafathi, led a meeting to discuss the activation of a river taxi service in Baghdad.

According to a statement from the Ministry, the project aims to establish 22 docking sites along the Tigris River, improving river transport and alleviating traffic congestion in the capital.

The ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of Water Resources to assess suitable river depths for safe navigation.

The river taxi project aligns with Transport Minister Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi's strategy to enhance Baghdad's tourism and transport infrastructure. Similar initiatives are being developed in Basra, Wasit, Babylon, Nineveh, and Salah al-Din.
