The Iraqi government has agreed new pricing for wheat based on the type of irrigation method used.
Wheat grown on lands using modern irrigation systems will be priced at 850,000 Iraqi dinars [$649] per ton, with a 90% government subsidy compared to global market prices; wheat from lands using traditional irrigation will be priced at 800,000 dinars per ton, with a 75% subsidy.
These prices apply only to lands included in the agricultural plan, while wheat produced outside this plan will be sold at global market rates.
The government has also outlined a comprehensive strategy to prevent wheat smuggling into Iraq, which will be implemented before the marketing season. The Ministry of Agriculture will submit the agricultural plan to the Ministerial Council for Economic Affairs for approval.
