South Gas Company to Lead LNG Platform Project

Iraq's Cabinet has approved the South Gas Company (SGC) to oversee the establishment of a fixed platform for importing liquefied gas.

The company has been granted the following responsibilities:

1. Coordination with Iraqi Ports Authority: Identify platform and gas storage locations, define specifications, and negotiate preparatory works including excavation, landfilling, and berth construction.
2. Direct Invitations to Global Companies: The Ministry of Oil will directly invite reputable international firms and select qualified candidates for contracts.
3. KBR as Consultant: The global consultancy firm, contracted by the Ministry of Planning, will manage organizational and contractual aspects.
4. Oversight by the Cabinet Secretariat: Regular monitoring and reporting on project progress to the Prime Minister.

This initiative is part of Iraq's broader strategy to strengthen its energy sector and secure reliable LNG imports for future demands.
