Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met with Ousmane Dione, World Bank Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa, to discuss strengthening cooperation and advancing development projects in Iraq.
The discussions emphasised initiatives to diversify Iraq's economy, reduce oil dependency, and create employment opportunities, with a focus on private sector growth.
The Prime Minister highlighted the government's commitment to economic reforms, noting tangible progress in customs and taxation. He acknowledged the World Bank as a key partner in Iraq's reform process and referenced the approval of a collaborative program between the Ministry of Planning and the World Bank.
The meeting also covered financing projects to rehabilitate the old railway and support infrastructure development. Mr. Dione reiterated the World Bank's commitment to funding oil, energy, and infrastructure projects. The role of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in financing private sector initiatives was also discussed.
