The Bazargan Oil Complex has announced the establishment of a gas compression unit with a processing capacity of up to 70 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscf), as part of efforts to fully utilize associated gas from Missan's oil fields.
Hassan Falahi, head of the gas processing division, told the state-run Iraqi News Agency (INA) that a 200 MMscf gas processing facility was launched in 2018, with 30 MMscf allocated for power generation and 10 MMscf for oil processing and operations.
Future plans, in collaboration with Missan Oil Company (MOC), the Ministry of Oil, and the operational authority, include a gas compression unit with a processing capacity of 50-70 MMscf. The gas will be transported to the Halfaya field to supply power stations in Al-Kahla district, with project implementation underway.
Additionally, expansion of the Power Plant station is under review, requiring 47 MMscf of gas and an additional 35 MMscf for planned generation unit upgrades. Once all projects are complete, Missan's associated gas will be fully utilized.
Falahi highlighted training initiatives for Iraqi employees, including in-house programs and specialized courses in Egypt with Chinese partners. He also noted that annual maintenance plans ensure long-term overhauls and rapid repairs, while 80% progress has been made on a 60-kilometer gas pipeline linking Buzurgan to Halfaya.
