First Sulphur Shipment from Halfaya Field

By John Lee.

Missan Oil Company has successfully transported its first sulphur shipment, weighing 80 tons, from the Halfaya oil field to its sulfur storage facilities located north of the Bazargan field.

Hussein Kazem Laibi, Director-General of Missan Oil Company, explained that the Halfaya field produces around 20 tons of sulphur daily via its Sulphur Recovery Unit (SRU) at the Gas Processing Plant (GPP), along with additional quantities from the Gas Processing Plant at the Bazargan field's NGP unit.

Laibi noted that strict safety protocols were followed during the transportation, and emphasized that this shipment marks the beginning of sulphur production at Halfaya, with more shipments expected after the completion of necessary testing and analysis, preparing for local and international marketing and export.

The Director-General described the sulphur transportation operation as a significant achievement that will contribute to diversifying the company's revenue sources and enhance its position as a major energy and oil derivatives supplier in Iraq. He highlighted the company's focus on developing by-products of oil operations, such as sulphur, which will open new avenues for the company and support the government's efforts to increase non-oil exports and maximise national revenue.
