Iraq to produce Solar Panels

By John Lee.

The Al-Zawraa General Company, part of Iraq's Ministry of Industry and Minerals, has unveiled plans to establish an integrated and advanced manufacturing plant for solar panels, with an annual production capacity of 750 megawatts - supporting the government's drive toward clean energy.

Director General Eng. Muhannad Jabbar Alwan highlighted the company's significant expertise in producing solar power systems, noting its track record of implementing projects for various Iraqi ministries and institutions.

The new plant, designed to meet global technical standards, will be built in partnership with the private sector. The company is currently conducting technical reviews of a submitted proposal ahead of formalizing the partnership contract.

Alwan also emphasized the need to raise public awareness about solar energy adoption, in line with the Central Bank's green financing initiative and government efforts to diversify Iraq's energy mix and promote environmental sustainability.
