The General Company for Ports of Iraq (GCPI) has reported a significant rise in maritime cargo throughput during the first half of 2025, with over 1,500 ships received across four major commercial ports, according to Director General Dr. Farhan Al-Fartousi.
A total of 1,522 vessels docked at Umm Qasr North, Umm Qasr South, Khor Al-Zubair, and Abu Flous ports, with a combined operational capacity exceeding 22.4 million tonnes during the period.
Breakdown by port includes:
- Umm Qasr North Port: 689 ships, handling 6.86 million tonnes of goods.
- Khor Al-Zubair Port: 396 ships, with the highest throughput at 9.7 million tonnes.
- Umm Qasr South Port: 252 ships, with 5.4 million tonnes.
- Abu Flous Port: 185 ships, with 462,000 tonnes.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Transport, the performance reflects increased efficiency and operational momentum at Iraq's key maritime gateways.
