Battling the 'Patriarchal Trifecta': Women in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Their Battle for Self-Agency

In the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), gender-based violence manifests through a 'patriarchal trifecta': forced marriage, female genital mutilation (FGM), and so-called honour killings. Though the term 'honour killing' is deeply problematic-more accurately described as misogynistic murder-it is used here for clarity.

This trifecta forms a mutually reinforcing system.
