Iraq Denies Vodafone Contract Claims

By John Lee.

The Ministry of Communications has denied reports of an investment contract with British company Vodafone, stressing that no agreement has been signed to date.

Omar Abdul Razzaq Musaheb (pictured), Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Communications, confirmed in a statement that procedures for establishing the national mobile licence project are still underway, and described recent claims by a Member of Parliament as inaccurate and politically motivated.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to full transparency, constitutional and legal frameworks, and to prioritising the interests of Iraq and its people. It also reserved the right to respond to any attempts to distort or discredit its work.

In March, Iraq's Council of Ministers approved the establishment of the National Mobile Telecommunications Company (NMTC), to operate Iraq's 5G national licence in cooperation with Vodafone.
