Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani met on Sunday with a group of businessmen and representatives of 17 Turkish companies from various sectors, in the presence of the Chairman of the National Investment Commission (NIC), the Executive Director of the Iraq Development Fund, several advisers, and the Turkish Ambassador to Iraq.

The press release from the Prime Minister's Office did not name any of the visiting companies.

Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in the water sector under the water cooperation framework agreement, signed in September 2024 by Prime Minister Al-Sudani and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The Prime Minister underlined Iraq's commitment to engaging with Turkish companies, highlighting strong bilateral ties and growing partnerships over the past two years. He stressed that the economy, investment, and business are central to advancing relations, supported by government measures to create an attractive investment climate.

Al-Sudani pointed to the rising role of Turkish companies in Iraq's projects and noted that trade between the two countries has exceeded $20 billion [≈26.2 trillion IQD]. He also highlighted the Development Road Project as a major opportunity for expanding regional partnerships.

The Turkish Ambassador welcomed Iraq's efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, emphasising cooperation beyond politics, particularly in economic development and investment.
