Iraq has signed a contract to establish its first government data centres for commercial use. The agreement was signed in Baghdad between the General Company for Communications and Informatics and the Finnish company Nokia.
The project will see the construction of two centres, located at the Intisar and al-Rashid (al-Sinak) exchanges.
Minister of Communications, Dr Hiyam al-Yasiri, noted that, for the first time, Iraqi citizens' and companies' data will be stored inside Iraq at government-run sites, built to international standards and incorporating globally recognised security and reliability systems.
