Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani on Sunday evening inaugurated the Al-Talae-Al-Bayjiya overpasses and the Sheikh Ma'ruf Mosque intersection in Baghdad's Karkh district. The project is the 14th of 16 traffic decongestion projects included in the government's first infrastructure package, supervised by the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Public Works.
The new overpasses link Bab Al-Muadham with Al-Mansour via Muthanna Airport Street, the railway, and Sheikh Ma'ruf Cemetery, helping to ease congestion in the Al-Alawi and Damascus Street areas leading to the Baghdad International Fair. The total length of the overpasses is 7,623 metres, complemented by the new 1,000-metre-long Street 80, connecting traffic from Al-Talae Bridge to Al-Bayjiya Bridge, which in turn routes vehicles toward Al-Liqa and Abu Jaafar Al-Mansour squares over 800 metres.
Al-Sudani performed Maghrib prayers at Sheikh Ma'ruf Mosque, expressing his honour in visiting the shrine of a revered figure known for piety and humility. He highlighted the importance of the Al-Talae-Al-Bayjiya project in improving traffic flow and thanked local residents for their cooperation, as well as all workers, supporting agencies, and the implementing company for their contributions.
The Prime Minister noted that Iraq has effectively become a vast construction site from Basra to Mosul, with ongoing projects in every city, district, and town. He affirmed that these achievements reflect the priorities of his government's three-year programme and are made possible by the security and stability secured through the sacrifices of Iraq's people who resisted terrorism and division.
