Commercial and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Iraq is entering a new phase following high-level business discussions in Baghdad and Anbar.
The Chairman of the Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Davron Vakhabov, is currently on a working visit to Iraq. With the support of Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Kuwait, Ayubkhan Yunusov, he held meetings with the Chairman of Iraq's National Investment Commission (NIC), Haider Makiyya, the President of the Anbar Chamber of Commerce, Amer Khalaf Al-Alawi, and the Consultant to the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, Maan Sabit Arif.
Discussions focused on expanding trade ties between the two countries' business communities, developing joint projects, and strengthening logistics cooperation. The two sides also agreed to hold a business forum and B2B meetings in Tashkent in December, aimed at facilitating direct dialogue and the signing of new commercial agreements.
A statement from the Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry highlighted that Iraq, with a population of around 46 million and annual import demand estimated at 53 billion dollars, is a large and promising market for Uzbek products. Iraq imports approximately 3 billion dollars per year in textiles, carpets and leather goods, 4 billion dollars in food products and building materials, and 3 billion dollars in electrical goods. The Iraqi furniture market is valued at 1.2 billion dollars, while pharmaceuticals account for nearly 2 billion dollars in annual imports.
The Iraqi side stressed its strong interest in Uzbek products and its readiness to elevate bilateral business relations to a new stage.
