Phase 1 of "Pulse of Mosul" Reconstruction Project Starts

By John Lee.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani has launched the first phase of the Pulse of Mosul project, aimed at rehabilitating alleys and neighbourhoods in the Old City of Mosul. The initiative mirrors the earlier Pulse of Baghdad programme to restore historic districts of the capital.

Chairing a meeting attended by the Governor of Nineveh, representatives of the Iraqi Private Banks League (IPBL), several advisers, and relevant local-government directors, the Prime Minister reviewed project stages and the heritage sites targeted for restoration. He emphasised the importance of reviving Mosul's cultural heritage, transforming the Old City into a significant tourism destination and reaffirming its historical identity.

He directed the formation of a committee chaired by the Governor of Nineveh to execute the project through reputable specialist companies, ensuring preservation of heritage and adherence to modern engineering standards. A consultancy firm will also be contracted. The project will be government-funded in cooperation with the Iraqi Private Banks League.

The first phase involves rehabilitating Al-Farouq Street, a 2-km route connecting the riverfront to the heart of the Old City, including Al-Nuri Mosque and the Clock Church.
