Work Begins on Baiji Fertiliser Plant

By John Lee.

Work has begun on the building of a compound fertiliser production plant in Baiji.

The project is being implemented by the Northern Fertiliser Company, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, in partnership with ARJ Holding of the United Arab Emirates.

According to a Ministry statement, current activities include excavation works and soil replacement at the project site, carried out in line with approved technical and engineering standards and in accordance with the plant's design and construction requirements.

The initial phase involves preparing foundations for the main buildings complex, which will include plant management facilities, warehouses, and service units, ahead of progression to subsequent stages of the project.

In May 2024, ARJ signed a contract to build the facility, which it said will have an annual production capacity of 249,000 tons of various compound phosphate fertilisers. It will make di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer and urea fertilizer.
