Italy's Eni increased its hydrocarbon production in Iraq in 2025, with liquids rising from 10 to 11 million barrels (mmbbl), natural gas from 25 to 30 billion cubic feet (bcf), and total hydrocarbons from 15 to 17 million barrels of oil equivalent (mmboe).
According to its latest Annual Report, activity centred on an additional development phase of the Enhanced Redevelopment Plan (ERP) at the Zubair Oil Field. Main facilities have been installed, with ongoing work to expand water availability, increase water treatment capacity, and maintain reservoir pressurisation. At the end of 2025, the phased start-up of the Zubair Mishrif Expansion project was initiated. The project includes:
- Four oil treatment units with a total capacity of 200,000 boe/d
- Additional water injection capacity of 750,000 boe/d
- A programme to achieve zero flaring by 2027
Additional productive wells are to be drilled over the coming years to bring field reserves progressively into production.
Eni also continued local development work in the Basra area, completing the second phase of the Al-Buradeiah drinking water plant and beginning construction of two school buildings in Zubair.
