Talk of new ministry emerges as Iraq grapples with PMU reform
Shortly after winning a contentious confidence vote in parliament on May 14, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi told lawmakers that his government would "monopolize weapons in the hands of the state."
Zaidi's pledge appeared to signal his commitment to reining in Iran-allied Iraqi armed groups, a key pillar of Washington's strong support for the new premier.
Yet, deep ambiguity remains over just how Iraqi authorities plan to embark on such an endeavor.
