Plans have been announced for a new modern city to be built in each of Iraq's provinces, with each city to cover between 10,000 and 15,000 dunams and to reflect the character, history, and heritage of its province.
According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi met on Thursday with the heads of investment commissions from all provinces, attended by the Minister of Finance, the governor of the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI), the head of the Supreme Coordination Authority for Provinces, and the head of the National Investment Commission (NIC).
Al-Zaidi directed that investment loans be extended to provincial investment commissions to fund infrastructure for the new cities, ensuring delivery of essential services. He also ordered the formation of a specialist committee to study the project urgently and develop implementation mechanisms, and instructed provincial investment commissions to submit a comprehensive project vision within one week, including proposals and requirements for commencement. The Ministry of Finance was directed to facilitate land allocation procedures to accelerate the project.
