Five One Labs 2025 Annual Report

By John Lee.

Five One Labs (51 Labs) has published its annual report for 2025, its final full year of operations in Iraq.

The report outlines a final year of pilot programmes before the closure, with initiatives spanning Kurdish-language incubation, climate resilience, digital skills and social entrepreneurship.

In 2025, the organisation identified several trends shaping its programming, including growth in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), reductions in donor funding concentrating support in urban areas, and rising demand for Kurdish-language business development services and digital skills training.

Key initiatives launched during the year included:

  • A Kurdish-language incubator cohort for early-stage businesses in northern Iraq, developed in partnership with Orange Corners
  • The Youth Impact Initiative, providing mentorship and funding for young leaders in the Kurdistan Region
  • The Climate Connect programme, integrating sustainability training and hosting workshops for women leaders
  • A "Making Every Bite Count" initiative addressing food waste through entrepreneurship in Erbil province
  • The Tech Lana programme, coaching IT students in rural communities
  • A Digital Explorers partnership providing leadership training for aspiring data analysts
