Iraq and Turkey have completed a framework draft agreement on developing transport infrastructure, with representatives of both sides signing the document on Wednesday.
According to the Iraqi Ministry of Transport, the draft was finalised following a series of intensive meetings covering legal, technical, financial, and operational aspects, with participation from relevant authorities in both countries. Mohammed Habib, director of the General Company for Iraqi Railways and Iraq's representative in the talks, said the draft includes a programme for implementing sections of the Development Road project and its implementation phases, in line with approved technical priorities and timelines.
The signed draft is to be submitted to senior government authorities in both countries for final review and ratification in accordance with legal procedures, before proceeding to project implementation.
Transport Minister Wahab Salman Mohammed was credited with driving efforts to activate memoranda of understanding between Iraq and Turkey and to strengthen cooperation in the transport sector.
