An Iraqi-American Business Council [U.S.-Iraq Business Council (USIBC)] has been launched in Baghdad, aimed at strengthening economic ties between the two countries and attracting American investment across key sectors.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the US diplomatic mission in Iraq, business leaders, and members of chambers of commerce and private-sector organisations from both countries. Mohammed Hannoun, adviser to the Ministry of Trade, opened the event on behalf of Minister Mustafa Nizar Jumaa. The directors-general of the ministry's Department of Foreign Economic Relations and Department of Private Sector Development were also present.

Hannoun described the council as a platform to bring together business communities, identify investment opportunities in Iraq, and facilitate contacts between companies and investors. He said the government's vision extends beyond traditional trade exchange to include industrial localisation, technology transfer, training of Iraqi professionals, and joint ventures in sectors including industry, agriculture, health, technology and digital transformation, infrastructure, logistics, and supply chain development.

He also highlighted the role of the Baghdad International Fair as a venue for strengthening the presence of American companies and fostering direct engagement with Iraq's private sector.

Hannoun called on all parties to convert ideas and opportunities into concrete investment programmes that benefit the Iraqi economy.
